This charming mourning pendant dates back to Victorian era- circa 1880. The large oval shaped pendant is fashioned from black onyx and features an applique at the front - detailed in a lovely 'forget-me-not' symbolic motif. The motif is further adorned with natural seed pearls -. The forget-me-not symbol represents remembrance & true love; the pearls represent tears and the black background represents a period of mourning.
Both the large bail, cap and applique has tested to at least 18ct gold.
In the day, there would have been perhaps a lock of hair from a deceased loved one, or a photo. Today, this can be left as is, or a photo of your choice fixed into place on the reverse. The crack across the pendant and missing pearls is reflected the price.
